branding questionnaire to get you started in 2020

The purpose of this branding questionnaire is to get business started branding in 2020. It is very critical today to stand out from the competition in a sea of companies . You have to be distinct, or you’ll get lost out there. This branding questionnaire is made out of top questions asked from me on LinkedIn. What’s more you will get inside here is how your brand needs to target the right customers and an audience that will benefit most from your products or services.

After finishing this branding questionnaire you will find it simple and solved while creating your message to be communicated clearly to your specific people. These specific people are the ones who will take action when they not only know that you can provide the best solution, but also they believe in what you do and stand for.

Branding is about creating a comprehensive authentic message for your company, product or service, using names, logos, slogans, copy and other collateral materials. When you actively create the perception you hope your ideal consumers have as they come into contact with, and experience your company, product or service, it's called the brand messaging.

Your Brand Strategy will map out how you are different, trustworthy, memorable, and likable by your ideal customer. It will convey your purpose, promises, and how you solve problems for people.

You can think of Brand Strategy as the blueprint for how you want the world to see your business.

Brand Strategy is a critical and foundational piece for building a successful brand. It’s one of the areas that most businesses overlook, because they jump right into the design and marketing.

Brand Identity is the way that you convey this to the public with visuals, messaging, and experience.

Brand Identity should be applied across all channels consistently. It is the way that your business becomes recognizable. This includes your logo, colors and fonts, website design, content, advertising, print or packaging, and more.

Finally, Brand Marketing is the way that businesses or organizations highlight and bring awareness to products or services by connecting values and voice to the right audience through strategic communication. If you are looking for how to create a business brand that people love, this branding questionnaire got you covered in all above mentioned phases.

To help business owners in their branding process I asked 3 of my clients on LinkedIn to let me explore the full impact of their company’s brand, out of which I came up with these 5 common branding questions. I tried to cover this questionnaire from building brand awareness to transferring brand equity along with offering insight into how your brand can affect everything from your business goals to your corporate office culture.

Here's what I cover:

  • How can I improve my company culture and bring creativity among my environment?

  • I am quite confused while maintaining my company's mission, vision, and values?

  • My team is planning to launch a new product/service line. How can I execute the process so that it fits with my existing brand?

  • What fundamental components I am missing to make my brand successful?

  • I want to increase my brand recognition but how?

How can I improve my company culture and bring creativity among my environment?

To improve your company culture, you may need to establish educational procedures and training programs for new as well as present hires that help them understand how to adopt and embrace your culture. You can introduce a ‘Cultural interview round’ that can help filter recruitments for a cultural fit before they are hired. Every company culture starts with mission, vision and values. Engage your employees in the practicing process through surveys, special task force teams or other feedback curricular opportunities. Look for the ways to ritualize your brand and your culture through corporate events or weekend talks. Use RRR process: Recognize, Repeat, Reward. Test consistently whether your company culture holds a significant role in your workplace across the teams or not.

I am quite confused while maintaining my company's mission, vision, and values?

I have personally experienced how companies often make mistakes talking about the things they value versus adapting those values as actionable behaviours. The Mission, Vision, and Value is made for a reason: Mission describes WHY of your brand; Vision describes WHERE, and Value describes HOW you are going to behave along the way. For example:

I am a branding consultant.

My mission is to help small and individual business’s branding and marketing approaches.

My vision is focused on online growth of small and individual businesses

My Value is to provide them with consistent brand support, content support, branding and marketing services throughout their journey

However, your mission, vision and values are your strategic management tools. They support your brand by connecting your brand promise.

My team is planning to launch a new product/service line. How can I execute the process so that it fits with my existing brand?

First, think about how the product fits the brand architecture. Second, choose a spot or position that allows new and old customers to easily understand how the new offering fits within the overall brand’s product family. Strategically separate it out from your other products and launch it according to your consistent brand standards. Therefore, you will need a strategic marketing plan before fully branding the product.

What fundamental components I am missing to make my brand successful?

There are 4 fundamental components for brand’s success:

Planning and Preparation

Monitoring and Assignment

Feedback Addresing

Consistency and Commitment

I want to increase my brand recognition but how?

Give before you take to increase your brand awareness. Build brand recognition by doing helpful work for the brand and the community not only increases your awareness but it also adds value to your commitment. Brand recognition is about cultivating the desired perception and understanding of your brand among desired people. A monthly/weekly benchmark assessment, operational changes, marketing changes, creative campaigns are the prior areas to start with.

So now we are clear that you need a strong brand. The real question comes after is, "How do you build one?" If you're serious about building a brand and already on your way, I suggest you don't just start advertising yet. Marketing tactics are the last step. Building your brand starts with answering some questions about your product or business:

  1. Who is my audience?

  2. What audience do I want to have?

  3. Who are my competitors?

  4. What is my competitors’ brand position?

  5. What problem does my brand solve? Does anybody care?

  6. What is my value proposition? Is it relevant to my customers?

  7. When people think about my company/product/service, what are the feelings I want them to have? Are they unique? Can we “own” them?

  8. What are the functional benefits that I deliver to my audience?

  9. What are the emotional benefits that only I deliver to my audience?

  10. What kind of personality will my brand have?

After answering these questions, you will have the basic building blocks of your brand strategy. I know it seems like a lot of work but is possible at the cost of defining your brand identity. Developing a brand strategy is a marketing tactic and so is a fundamental part of good business.

Here are the 8 things to help you get started with your brand:

  1. Competitor Analysis: Look at your competitor’s brand identity, product/service offering, website user experience, content, social media, advertising, etc to know more about their brand behaviour and market growth. You should also consider SWOT Analysis for your branding supported by your competitor’s research. But make sure you understand that getting inspiration is one thing and outright plagiarized is another.

  2. Understand your customer: I talked to a business developer and according to him committing to the target audience is the most difficult thing in brand development. It is very crucial to visualize what your ideal customer or audience looks like. This is called buyer persona. As you are a new company with little or no audience insights, it’s smart to start with a competitor's audience. Check out their reviews, customer engagement, social media engagement and more to understand what type of customers you are getting to. Your buyer persona will have a name, interests, demographics, lifestyle, motivations, etc. spend some time to analyze and write it down.

  3. Design a professional logo: No matter what size your business has, it deserves a professional brand identity design. Hire a freelancer, individual professional, branding agency whatever you can go for and design your brand. My team can also provide you with a logo design including all other necessary details such as Logo in vector format, color palette, brand style guide. Also, if you need more like business card designs and social media profile graphics we can work on that too. I am here to provide you with a complete brand identity package.

  4. Compelling Brand Tagline: Tagline exemplifies the essence of your brand’s personality and positioning. Nike’s ‘just do it’ has nothing to do with the shoes, but it is memorable and has the essence of the brand i.e. motivation. Your brand tagline should convey positivity, a sense of emotion, and a memorable throw.

  5. Keep it up with the trends: Market research should be your first important step while getting started with your brand. You don;t need to spend a penny on it but your time. Google has everything covered for you. Isn’t it?

  6. Define your brand personality: Be it a subtle. But your brand does need to have a personality. Is it spontaneous or curious? extrovert/outgoing?Efficient/organized? Sensitive/nervous/secure/confident? Define it.

  7. Last but not least, trademark your brand identity.

  8. Be consistent and boost your brand later after establishment with ads and social media paid campaigns.
