Starting a website these days has become easy with platforms like WordPress. However once it is up and running, the next big challenge you have is to bring more traffic to your blog or website. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a marketing guru to promote your blog. You can easily increase your blog traffic to get more visitors by using some proven best practices. In today’s post, I will share some of the easiest and tested tips to increase your blog traffic like an expert content marketer.

Today, businesses are facing an increased amount of online content as well as ongoing changes from search engines such as Google, and constant algorithm updates from platforms like Facebook and YouTube. But, if you’re in a competitive industry that is dominated by established sites, all is not lost.

You can still get tons of website traffic with a resourceful content marketing strategy through producing quality and evergreen pieces of content.

Let’s get started:

As you can see more than 90 percent of website pages generate no organic search traffic from Google? In fact, if you look closely, less than 1 percent of website pages drive the majority of organic traffic online.

How to make it work then?

Write evergreen content and promote it on social media regularly

I started writing my blog on 5 August 2020. Although I do not have thousands of traffic on my blog posts, I have experienced something which is equally important to share with you. The only blog posts that have a good audience in the last 15 days are those, which I shared on both my Facebook and Instagram pages. But the minimum traffic also faded away when my blog post didn’t rank well on Google and when it wasn't being promoted on other marketing channels anymore. Because for now I am only using Instagram & Facebook.

Whereas, my other blog post did really well when I got 300+ reach on my Facebook post. Yes, after publishing it, I was known with the fact that I am not going to get expected traffic from Google as I still have to work on so many things to make it happen. So I promoted it on my Facebook page for the first 3 days and till now after publishing it. Today, I am getting 10-15 people visiting my blog post everyday.

What I learned as a beginner

There are many ways to generate content ideas. Obviously almost all of them are present on the internet already. But I started using these two proven tactics to consistently increase my web traffic:

  1. Find popular search terms: I prefer using Google search bar & keyword planner to search for single words or phrases related to my writing/product/service. Also, I have set in the extension of Neil Patel’s Ubersuggest which ultimately helps me with genuine domains, view the search domain around the term entered, also it gives me related keywords and search volume which provides me with more variety of content ideas.

  2. Research your competitors: I also look inside my competitors blog posts and what keywords they’re using. I particularly like this tactic because it actually provides even deeper insights of exact pages and keywords other businesses are ranking for.

I do not wholly rely on organic search volume I see on the internet alone to help me with evergreen content ideas for my website and blog. As I have just started it, these two above tactics are best helping me with planning my content. Besides choosing the relevant topic to write (keyword research) and promoting the blog, I started updating my first 3 blog posts.

Update and relaunch your blog posts

As I have just started, I am quiet on the way to make a content plan working. So updating my previous posts and relaunching them is useful for me. I search for the topic visibility on the google search and if it shows that traffic is still coming on the specific topic on which I have also created a blog post, I update it. I update the content with trending news going on related to it, or change images, re-write a few things, add links etc. later, I update the publish date and relaunch it.

What I have learned

People won;t visit our site unless they know the content is there. Therefore, using social media paid advertising and a video (which I am going to do soon) helps us to boost the results of this evergreen content strategy.

The one thing is very clear to me after analyzing my competitor’s online position that creating videos is one of the compelling ways to reach your targets. The 3 things I have learnt and going to apply on my content are:

  1. Create video topics of my blog posts

  2. Create video topics from scratch. And for this I have started using BuzzSumo.

  3. Create short videos to promote my blog posts.

Boost website traffic with social media ads

Social media advertising is a great way to boost website or blog traffic by using strategic marketing initiatives and promotional posts pages like landing pages & branded videos. Facebook Ads & Instagram sponsored content is a great start for me.

I have learned that I need to advertise my blog post on Facebook & Instagram that has gained more traffic. Also, I have started creating new content from the scratch and it’s going good on both Instagram and Facebook.

Social media advertising best-practices:

  • Test images, captions, and headlines until you find the right combination

  • Look for a relevancy score of 8-10 on brand awareness type content

  • Increase budget with successful posts (immediately shut down others)

  • Keep an eye on frequency rate (try not to exceed 2.0)

  • Evergreen content can run as long as you want!

Do keyword research to plan your strategy

By doing proper keyword research, I have unlock the following benefits:

  • Discover actual search terms people are looking for

  • Find unique content ideas for popular search terms

  • Learn from your competitors and beat them with better content

  • Create a series of pillar-articles to drive steady traffic to your blog

That was all from my experience of starting this blog website. But now when you too have put your business online with a website, you've already even taken the next step i.e. started to market your online business with Search Engine Optimization(SEO). Now what? Website analytics is the tracking of traffic to and on a website that helps website owners understand their online customers, potential customers and their interactions with their site.

Why this is helpful because it provides you with month to month information, revealing trends such as seasonality, etc. website analytics is a great way to analyze the impact of other advertising is having on a website.

Learn more about customers – Yes, web analysis can reveal a lot about the visitors such as: how visitors got to the site, how long they stayed, returning visitors VS new visitors, where the visitor is located, what phrase or keywords they searched for/with, which Search Engine and geographic locations, interests, behaviours, and more.

Extra features – If you’ve done it by yourself, you may have realized that no two website analytics online softwares/programs/websites are exactly the same and can offer a variety of special features. For example, VisiStat, the website analytics program utilized by Commercial Web Services, has a feature that shows where website visitors actually click on the site. This is a terrific tool to see what areas of the website attract people’s attention in order to make use of those areas of a website better.
